EducationI am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in English. I also minored in Biology. I have published research in the August 2013 UNCC Undergraduate Journal of Psychology. I am currently back in school at NC State for a Masters in Microbiology.
ExperienceI am prepared to tutor students from third grade to the undergraduate level in college. The classes I have taken at UNCC have prepared me to help students who are experiencing difficulties with English (Writing and ESL), Psychology, Research Skills, Biology, and MLA/APA citation styles. Also, as a previous tutor in the UNCC Writing Resources Center, I have worked with all types of students and was able to assist them with their needs to the best of my ability. My teaching ethics consist of having fun while learning. It is my goal to turn a "not so fun" or difficult school subject into something that students can enjoy. This will ensure that my students will be able to learn a lot easier. I believe that everyone is capable of mastering a subject, but it might take the right learning method for the information to "click". My intentions are to help my students find the study methods that work best for them and apply that to their weaknesses and strengths in school. I can also be especially helpful to students who have trouble getting organized.
HobbiesI am a very outgoing, hardworking person with lots of goals in life. Education, microbiology, photography, and jewelry making are a few of the things I am most passionate about. I am also a wire artist who specializes in science art & jewelry. In my free time, I volunteer for EduMESH, a non-profit education platform, to create recycled, cost-efficient science projects for children all over the world. We are currently working in Raleigh, NC at NCSU to host a life sciences course for freshman in the Spring that will feature four of my hand-on project designs students will build themselves, allowing them to explore more critical thinking and visual/hands-on learning.
