Education

Elon University, graduated Cum Laude in 2012, with a BS in Biology GPA: 3.65

Experience

-I currently work in a hematology research lab at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. -2 years teaching assistant experience at Elon for a variety of biology classes (Population Biology, Intro to Cell Biology) -Relevant classes with no grade lower than a B: General Chemistry I, II; Intro Cell Biology, Organic Chemistry I, II; Genetics; Physics I, II; Biochemistry; Molecular and Cellular Biology; Human Physiology; Statistics in Application; Algebra I, II; Pre-calculus -I was selected for summer internships at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Harvard Medical School while in undergrad -Coauthor of papers published in the scientific journals titled Journal of Biological Chemistry, Physiological Genomics, and the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis -I am interested in becoming a tutor to help students. I am currently pursuing a career in the healthcare field, and I have found in my experience in research that passing on knowledge is one of the most rewarding experiences about being in an academic setting. I believe the tutor learns as much from the student as the student does from the tutor. Working in research, I have found that no matter what degree you have, you are constantly learning and growing intellectually. I would like to be able to help others the same way my colleagues in the lab and those throughout my educational experience have helped me.

Hobbies

I was born in Coral Springs, Florida, but spent the majority of my childhood in Raleigh, North Carolina. Growing up, I was very active and loved all sports. I tried a bit of everything when I was younger but continued to play soccer competitively through high school, on the club team in college, and continue to play for fun today. I believe it is important to try and live a balanced lifestyle and, outside of work, enjoy time volunteering, going to the gym, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Growing up, my mother spent time as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher, a profession that lasted about 15 years, and initially sparked my interest in education. After graduation from Cardinal Gibbons High School with a GPA above 4.0, I attended Elon University, majoring in biology. From my freshman year, I followed the pre-health track, doing well in the necessary per-requisites for many graduate schools. Deciding medical school was the route I would like to pursue, I was fortunate to be selected for a couple of summer research internships at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Harvard Medical School, where I spent time learning in a cardiology lab and immunology lab, respectively. These experiences helped motivate me to become involved as a teaching assistant at Elon, for classes I had previously taken and done well in. Upon graduating in 2012, I spent time working as a server before getting a position as a lab manager at UNC. In my current position, I am constantly learning new techniques and reading new medical literature. I enjoy being able to go to work every day and either learn or teach something to someone I work with. My time spent in research has enhanced my appreciation for continued intellectual growth, and it has helped motivate me to become a tutor. I am friendly, respectful, and easy to get along with. I look forward to the opportunity to learn as much as I teach while tutoring.
