Experience

I started tutoring as a high school student, and I realized how much I enjoyed it. Since then, I've tutored for various companies, through schools, as a volunteer, and writing and reading centers a colleges and elementary schools, and I've coordinated the tutoring program through a community college. My experiences as a tutor inspired me to seek a masters degree in education emphasizing reading instruction. I now teach reading, English, and other academic skills at a community college, and I've honed my abilities to figure out the learning style and needs of each student that I work with. I love helping students become confident in their abilities, and that motivates me to keep improving my skills as a teacher and tutor. I want my students to not only learn the topic at hand, but to develop a strong base of knowledge, learning skills, and strong communication skills so that they can be successful long-term. I figure out how to approach my students based on their learning style, strengths, needs, and goals. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, doing needlework, going on hikes, camping, and singing.
