I have a Master's degree in English Rhetoric & Composition from NC State University (2016), and a Bachelor's degree in English with concentrations in Literature and Professional Writing & Rhetoric from Elon University (2014).
Experience
I have 6 years of experience working in collegiate writing centers and tutoring writing in any discipline and genre. My tutoring philosophy is to make writers better, not just to make papers better. I focus on transferable writing skills and habits that can be learned and applied to future writing projects. As a tutor, I encourage the learner to take ownership of their ideas and their paper; I will not tell a student what to write or "fix" a paper. The process isn't always easy, but it is worth the results! My favorite part about tutoring is seeing a learner apply a concept they used to struggle with independently and automatically. I have taught first-year writing (English 101) so I know what it takes to prepare high school students for the expectations of college-level writing. I am familiar with most AP essay formats in the humanities, including Language & Composition, Literature & Composition, World History, and US History.
