Education

I received my Bachelor's Degree in History with a European Studies minor at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington in May 2016. I had a 3.822 overall GPA. I will also be starting a Master's program in History at North Carolina State University in the Fall of 2016. My primary interests are in both modern and early modern European History, although I have taken a variety of courses including ones on the colonial United States, the Caribbean, and some general World History courses.

Experience

In high school I worked as a History Tutor in AP United States History. For the past three years at UNCW I have been a Writing Tutor at UNCW's University Learning Center. I am certified by the College Reading & Learning Association as a Master Level Writing Tutor, which is the service that accredits UNCW's Learning Center. Furthermore, I have taken the GRE (which is a standardized test used by graduate schools to assess a potential student's ability and readiness) and scored a perfect 6.0 on the Analytical Writing portion as well as scoring a 168 on the GRE's Verbal Reasoning portion. That puts me in the 99th and 97th percentile, respectively, in those categories.

Hobbies

Hello! My name is Ryan and in terms of non-academic pursuits I love playing music, traveling, and hockey (although not necessarily in that order). Generally though I just enjoy talking to people about what they are interested. For me, that is the most enjoyable part of traveling; talking to people, hearing there stories, and comparing their lives to mine. In this regard I find that Nelson Mandela spoke definitively on the issue when he said "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart" which has been a big reason that I have started learning both Spanish and French! Anyway, I hope you choose me as your tutor! I am actually more flexible than my schedule on this website suggests; if you would like to possibly meet with me feel free to send me an email! I will do my absolute best to accommodate my schedule to your needs.
